I was a gruelling 12 hour days sanding floors and tearing down wallpaper with the baby on my back while the other babies were climbing inside the playpen. Ha! We were getting close to finishing, but the project was still a distance away. It was going to take a lot of money effort and my personal favorite brands interiors to decorate this place. In order to stay within my budget, I began going to estate sales with my three brothers to search for jewels in the rough. Every week, we would walk through estate sales and garage sales on Fridays and Saturdays buying a mixture of new and old pieces. My next task was to spend working on my projects out in the driveway. Looked a little something like this... That's when my interest in restoration of furniture started. Once our home was furnished, I still couldn't stop! There was a place at the local markets that I could sell my items. In the end, I had lots of pieces, I didn't have a clue what to do with them and my storage space was a mess. There were open houses in my home where over 1 000 people would come through in a single weekend and could buy anything they saw on the ground floor. Growing Days is the result of this. In addition to my thriving company, I also started our family. It was a balance between starting a business and being a mother. Growing Days just seemed to work. Nora was born in 2013 as our 4th baby. While I was pleased with the direction my business was taking, I realized that I was in need of some time off. I decided to take a break from creating furniture for vintage homes, and slowed down my pace and stayed at home to raise the children. It was the right time. In the course of a few months, my phone started to ring. They asked for assistance with interior decorating and renovations. Most of them were people who walked into my house during my furniture open houses. I started taking on some clients at a time working at my own pace but it wasn't too time before I was running multiple accounts and was running an entire home improvement business. It is likely that I'd have laughed had I had been told that the business was going to be the basis for an upcoming TV show that airs on the DIY Network. It's true that I laugh when I think about the idea.
